Mike has been guiding in the Cuillin since 2018 and is a central part of the Skye Guides team with his musical talents and Yorkshire banter always entertaining. His geological knowledge is far better than most (degree level) and a wealth of expedition experiences are always told with passion and a grin 😉
He lives in Kinlochleven and is an active member of Glen Coe mountain rescue team. On the hill, his calm demeanor will steady even the most nervous of guests.
“I have been hill walking for as long as I can remember, and took to rock climbing at a young age too. Since then mountaineering has taken me all over the UK and Europe as well as Morocco, Russia, Norway, Tanzania, the Andes, Oman and The UAE. I have been working in the outdoor industry in a variety of rolls for over ten years. I also have a degree in geology, and sometimes can’t help but get excited by the cool rocks I find at the crag or out in the mountains.”
I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank Skye Guides and, in particular, Mike Mason, for an outstanding experience as we enjoyed completing 6 superb Munros on Skye. Please do pass on our sincere thanks for his guidance and ability for making us feel so safe, which is everything when completing a challenge such as this. SB Aug 24
